Why It Is In the Interest of the Progressive Community to Help Me

Wed Feb 14, 2007 at 11:57:45 AM PDT

So the over the last two days I have posted two diaries here imploring the dKos community to get me in touch with any lawyers they they might know in the LA area.  The response was been encouraging and I am in the process of following up on the small handfull of leads generated.  I even managed to drive some traffic to my new blog, Somebody Please Make Me a Lawyer.  Yet I need to cast my net as widely as possible.

So today let me offer some reasons as to why it is in the interest of the dKos community to help me:

  1. If I get a job as a lawyer I will have disposable income to donate to netroots endorsed candidates.
  1.  I am a committed progressive; if I end up being forced to work as a sleazebag lawyer, a potential progressive leader of tomorrow may have been cut down.
  1.  It would be encouraging to all to know that this community can help when one of its memebers is in need.

And these are just the reasons off the top of my head.  My qualifications after the break ...

Desperate, Still Need Your Help: Now With Link to Blog

Tue Feb 13, 2007 at 04:09:18 PM PDT

Yesterday I posted a  diary pleading for help from this community.  The response was great and welcome.  But my desperation continues.

Taking a creative turn, I have created a blog, Somebody Please Make Me a Lawyer to try to amplify the usefulness of the blogosphere in getting me a job.

Here's what I need from you, dKos Community: Someone out there must know a lawyer in LA looking to hire a new bar admittee.  Maybe you?  If you do, please visit my blog and let me know, or drop a comment here.

Student loan repayment bills are piling up!  My qualifications after the jump...

At the End of My Rope; Can Anybody Help?

Mon Feb 12, 2007 at 01:05:18 PM PDT

Last November I was elated to learn that I passed the California Bar Exam.  I actually shared the experience live with this community.  But since then I have not been able to get a job as a lawyer.  I am working as a temp now but the money is barely enough for my rent let alone my student loan and credit card payments that are due.  I just want to be a lawyer and it seems like the world will not let me.

Is anyone out there a lawyer in the the Los Angeles area?  Are you hiring?  Do you know anybody who is hiring?  Does anybody out there know any lawyers in LA?  I am increasing desperate.  Any contact with anybody would help.

More about my qualifications under the fold ...

RI Sen: Got my friend out to the polls, now gotta keep calling my friends in MD

Tue Nov 07, 2006 at 07:23:41 AM PDT

Wooo!!!

Years of DKos lurking have finally blossomed into activism!  And it feels good.  Real good.  I grew up in RI and when to the Univ. of MD, so I got a bunch more calls to make.  Unfortunately my friend in VA apparently isn't registered.  And I got the voicemail of my friend in MO.  But I gotta lotta friends.  So, back to the phone.

Also, if Whitehouse wins I call the credit.

The NSA Program May Be Legal, Just Really Bad Policy

Thu May 11, 2006 at 07:51:23 AM PDT

Intellectual honesty is important to me.  And I strongly feel that when we Kossacks hurl charges at Bush & Co. they should be accurate.  Let the wingers distort facts and argue half-truths, I say.

That is why we should carefully think about how we describe the NSA domestic telephone traffic tracking program.  I mean not to do the defenders of Bush's work for them, but we should take pains to argue honestly, so that we cannot have things thrown back at us.

Everything Bush has done in the White House, in descending order of severity, has been unconstitutional, illegal, or really bad policy.  And the NSA program may be in the last category.

Message to FCC: Bullshit Is Not a Swear Word

Sat Apr 15, 2006 at 03:21:13 PM PDT

The LA Times reports today that the FCC is seeking to fine CBS when a guest on "The Early Show" referred to another individual as a "bullshiter."

I'm not sure if everyone else's elementary school experiences were like mine, but the addition of the word "bull" to the word "shit" somehow made it okay.  The fact of the matter is that the word bullhit is fully usuable in social situations where the word shit would not be considered proper.  Furthermore, I think that the word bullshit is acceptable enough to be used on broadcast TV.

Groundwork for an Abortion Ban in Florida?

Fri Apr 07, 2006 at 08:03:36 AM PDT

Republican lawmakers in Florida may be laying the groundwork for a South Dakota-style abortion ban.

Jrflorida posted in an Open Thread last night that the GOP in the Florida legislature is seeking to pass a law (at "April 5, 2006 Edition") that would create a mechanism to convert state constitutional provisions (that were passed by popular election) into statutes that the legislature could then repeal.

This is troubling in the general sense that legislators are usurping the popular will.  But a specific application of this mechanism may be the first step on the path towards outlawing a woman's right to choose.

Crisis for this Liberal

Wed Apr 05, 2006 at 11:04:32 AM PDT

I am having a personal crisis as a liberal.  Yesterday at law school, tax class was about deductibility of home mortgage interest and how it is capped at one million dollars.  And because I live in LA, I remember thinking, "This is ridiculous! No one can get a house worth living in for less than a million dollars!  Congress should raise the cap!"  Then I realized that I was arguing for what amounts to a tax cut for the rich.  TAX CUT FOR THE RICH!  I vehemently argue against those all the time.  Its why I hate Bush.

So anyway, I don't know what to do personally.  Is this it for my liberalism?  Is this the beginning of my transformation from a liberal college student to a fiscal conservative middle-aged person?  I'm still only 25!  What do I do?
