According to a gloating son of a bitch anti-Impeacher whom I will not identify yet by mentioning his pissing on a fire hydrant screen name in this intro, Impeachment advocates write Impeachment diaries so we can feel "warm and fuzzy" and savor our "self-righteousness." This isn't the only mockery Impeachment opponents have been indulging in lately, but it was the last fucking straw for this Impeachment advocate.
I don't give a damn if I get banned for taking civility OFF THE TABLE in this diary, if Democrats don't Impeach Bush he is going to attack Iran and we're all going to have a lot more to worry about than civility on Daily Kos.
One month from today, on September 21, 2007, Americans in hundreds of towns and cities across this country will be taking part in Iraq Moratorium events in their communities. Are you going to plan or participate in an Iraq Moratorium event?
In The Political Brain: The Role of Emotion in Deciding the Fate of the Nation, Dr. Drew Westen insists that Democrats should be passionate advocates of their principles:
According to Dr. Westen, the dispassionate view of the mind which has guided Democratic thinking for 40 years is deeply flawed. What decides elections are people’s emotional reactions, even if they don’t know it.
Karl Rove has understood this for years and has ruthlessly exploited it. Republicans have been masters of emotional manipulation, especially since 9/11. Democrats have not had a clue how to respond effectively.
When in the Course of Corporate Media Infamy it becomes necessary to condemn the Outrages of these Mercenaries, to expose their pervasive Deceit, and to assume among the ranks of fellow progressives the separate but equal condition of seething fury the Corporate Media consigns us to, respect for the Principles of Actual Journalism requires that we should declare the causes which impel us to Damn them to Hell.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all Corporate Media outlets are created Corruptible, that they are endowed by Mammon the Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Deception, Disinformation, and the Expansion of Corporate Power.
Democrats are afraid to Impeach. They're afraid they'll be accused of partisan vengeance. They're afraid they'll look weak if they fail to get enough Impeachment votes in the House or conviction votes in the Senate. They're afraid Americans will resent them spending time on Impeachment instead of passing legislation, and will punish them in 2008.
Every one of these political considerations and calculations is driven by FEAR. Every public argument Democrats make against Impeachment resonates with their fear of the potential negative political consequences. Fear-based thinking is pervasive among Congressional Democrats, it has had a destructive impact on the entire Democratic Party ever since the Reagan landslides a generation ago.
The fear-based thinking of Democrats has never been more destructive than it has these past seven years. Fear has undermined their confidence and integrity to such an alarming degree that instead of restoring honor and dignity to our government by enforcing the Constitution through Impeachment, they cringe at the mere mention of the word.
What is this crap you keep spouting about progress in Iraq???
Which part of EVERYONE IN IRAQ WANTS US TO GET THE HELL OUT OF THEIR COUNTRY haven’t you figured out yet?
How much longer are you going to slap lipstick on this pig of an occupation? How much longer are you going to lie to your soldiers and lie to the American people and lie to yourself? How much longer are American soldiers supposed to endure 3rd and 4th and 5th deployments? How many more Sunni militias are you going to arm before you figure out they're not killing "terrorists", they're killing Shi'ites and Americans?
One bloodbath after another from Mosul to Najaf keeps confirming the necessity of withdrawal to you, but you keep claiming we’re "making progress." Yup. We're making so much progress that if the American people can just summon some patience for only twenty more Friedman Units, we can prevail by 2017 against these cold-blooded IED's that hate us for our freedoms.
Marcy Winograd posted a report on AfterDowningStreet.org about a meeting Chairman Waxman held with an impeachment delegation in his Los Angeles office on August 7:
Only six months ago, Congressman Waxman ruled out impeachment, this time he indicated he would go forward with an open mind, all the while praising participants for their passion and urging them to lobby the members of the House Judiciary Committee.
What do you think we've been doing for 7 months, Chairman Waxman? We don't need to be told who to contact, we know who to contact. We've been imploring Democrats to start Impeachment hearings, but they won't. We've asked them by phone. By email. By fax. On blogs, and face to face in Congressional offices coast to coast. We've begged them politely, we've begged them with barely restrained fury, we've begged them to enforce the Constitution in every pleading, imploring, respectful form of communication imaginable.
We're doing everything we can to end this Bush/Cheney rampage against the Constitution, Chairman Waxman. Can you say the same?
Black helicopters are everywhere. There are at least a billion of them available across the United States right now if Gonzo decides to conduct illegal surveillance on any one of us. They don't look like black helicopters, but that's what they are.
I'm looking at a black helicopter right now. So are you. Mine was made by Dell and comes with a handy keyboard. It doesn't hover above my neighborhood, but it doesn't have to. It just sits here on my desk, ready and waiting to spy on me if Gonzo decides I'm not sufficiently loyal to the Commander Guy. There's another black helicopter right next to it. It's made by Panasonic. It rings several times a day, just like the black helicopters in my living room and bedroom.
Bush's criminal government doesn't even have to pay for these black helicopters, we buy them ourselves. We pay for them and we pay to use them. We pay again with our tax dollars, which are used to pay the salaries of the NSA spies who will spy on us with these black helicopters if Gonzo tells them to.
Welcome to Orwell Incorporated, formerly known as the United States of America.
If Democrats do not have the moral courage to stand united against these criminals in the White House, the American people will have to. Tens of millions of them know we do not have an American president, we have a CIA network destroying, illegal wiretapping, human being torturing, American soldier killing son of a bitch fouling our White House with his treachery. They know we do not have a functioning Congress of American lawmakers, we have a clusterfuck parade of craven politicians who have been kissing the ass of a psychopath for seven years.
I keep hearing that. Chairman Conyers said it again yesterday, before the arrest of that notorious attention whore Cindy Sheehan and her scandalously impatient friends. They must not have gotten the memo about Chairman Conyers' brilliant plan to move Impeachment forward by not moving it forward. You see, it's like putting a fire out by not putting it out.
Works every time.
Way to go, Cindy. Way to fuck things up for everybody. Don't you understand that civil disobedience just embarrasses everyone who doesn't have the courage to engage in it themselves? Violating the fire codes in that House office building was WAY over the top. This is a nation of laws, you know. Well thank God Chairman Conyers enforced those fire codes so quickly, someone might have gotten hurt.
He didn't even call Madame Speaker first to see if it was OK, he didn't write a letter to the White House first, and then another one, and then another one, so everyone can see what an effective letter writer he is. Nope. When people are in danger of getting hurt, Chairman Conyers acts decisively.
Are you planning to occupy America next, Commander Guy? Is that going to be the ultimate turning point in your comprehensive strategery for victory over the evildoers who hate us for our freedoms? Is martial law being finalized right now as your bloodbath in Iraq intensifies, as your plunge in the polls approaches terminal velocity, and as Impeachment closes in on you?
It certainly looks like you intend to escalate your rampage against American democracy with one last desperate spasm of madness. This 7 year coup of yours appears to be reaching a culmination point. The warning signs have been flashing for months, and now they are pulsing like a strobe light.
Is another 9/11 coming? How many Americans would die this time? A hundred thousand? Half a million? A million? Are you planning to declare martial law in the aftermath? Are you planning to climb onto a pile of rubble again, to proclaim that the people responsible will hear from all of us soon?
For the first time in your worthless fucking life, you'd be right. The people responsible would damn well hear from us. They would hear from all of us.
In order to respond to the well-intentioned but flawed efforts of some front pagers and prominent diarists who have written finger-wagging epistles deploring "name calling", I’m setting some other activism aside and redeploying to the recent diary list on Daily Kos despite deep disgust and abiding contempt for the banning of Cindy Sheehan advocacy. If elected, she would vote with Democrats on nearly every issue, if not every single one, so targeting her with this rule prohibiting advocacy of Independent candidates appears to be a concerted effort by the hierarchy here to protect Pelosi.
But this is not a diary about Cindy, she’ll be able crash Pelosi’s gates without any help from me. This is a diary about IDIOCY. I’m told this is a reality-based community, so in the interests of reality, I feel compelled to point out that there IS such a thing as idiocy. It is real. It exists in this world. This isn’t just my opinion, the American Heritage Dictionary of the English Language confirms the existence of idiocy. This prestigious source defines idiocy as "extreme folly or stupidity" and warns that idiocy can be identified as "a foolish or stupid utterance or deed."
In a recent diary imploring Cindy Sheehan not to run against Speaker Pelosi, the fundamental issue involved was spectacularly missed:
Let's face a cold hard fact: should you decide to run for Congress, based on the reasoning that Speaker Pelosi has taken impeachment off the table, were you to be elected, it would not affect the issue of impeachment one iota. For the simple reason that when you take office in 2009, the crooks will be gone.
This is a reality-based community, which compels me to refute this "simple reason" by pointing out a glaring reality: THE CROOKS WILL NOT BE GONE. Corrupt right wing fanatics will still be entrenched throughout the federal government bureaucracy, the judicial system, and the corporate media. K-Street lobbyists will still have overwhelming influence. The Department of Homeland Security and the entire defense industry will still be infested with crime and corruption.
Cindy Sheehan is not and never has been a one-issue activist. Her potential candidacy is not just about Impeachment, it's not just about ending this criminal occupation of Iraq, it's about challenging the entire corrupt, broken, fucked up beyond all recognition political system we have in this country.
Democrats, when are you going to commute this excessive sentence we've been serving ever since January 20, 2001? This bought and paid for travesty of justice known as the Bush presidency was imposed on America by five black-robed hypocrites on what used to be the Supreme Court, and must be commuted through Impeachment.
This country has suffered enough.
For seven years, we've been imploring you to restore justice, Democrats. We've implored you by phone. By email. By fax. On blogs, and face to face in Congressional offices coast to coast. We've begged you with tears in our eyes, we've begged you with barely restrained fury, we've begged you to defend the Constitution in every pleading, imploring, respectful form of communication imaginable. We've jumped through all the hoops, time and time again.
But all we've gotten from you are patronizing platitudes, empty promises, and futile hearings.
Call Chairman Conyers about Impeachment, he's been waiting to hear from you. I don't care where you call him from, but I have a few suggestions. I politely encourage you to get out of Washington D.C. more often, you've been there for twenty years, and your long residence in that twilight zone of truthiness and treachery seems to have significantly impaired your ability to remember who you are supposed to be representing.
Speaker Pelosi, if you had personally experienced the horrors inflicted on the victims of seven years of Bush/Cheney crimes, you'd have started Impeachment on Day 1 of the 110th Congress. But you haven't experienced even a fleeting second of that horror, have you.
Well it's long past time you did, even if it's only in the diary of a lowly blogger like me with an anger management problem and fading faith in the political party I have supported ever since I knocked on doors for Gene McCarthy in 1968. It's time for you to knock on some doors, Speaker Pelosi. I suggest you start by knocking on the door of a secret CIA prison in Uzbekistan, and bring a cell phone with you, you're going to need it . . .
According to anti-Impeachment "realists" here, we shouldn't even try to Impeach Bush or Cheney. Most Democrats in Congress agree. They tell us we can't Impeach because Bush's liars, right wing nitwits, Neocons, media hacks, and thugs in Congress won't let us. These "realists" don't state their anti-Impeachment position that way, of course, they prefer to say "we don't have the votes", it sounds so much better than admitting they are advocating craven and shameful political expediency at the very time tens of millions of Americans are begging for decisive leadership from Democrats.
Thanks a lot, anti-impeachment "realists". The democracy-destroying criminals you are so afraid to Impeach have created a lethal concoction of ANTI-REALITY, and you are rewarding them for it:
"We’re an empire now, and when we act, we create our own reality. And while you’re studying that reality – judiciously, as you will – we’ll act again, creating other new realities, which you can study too, and that’s how things will sort out. We’re history’s actors . . . and you, all of you, will be left to just study what we do."
Addressing a Republican fund-raising dinner at the Washington Convention Center last Wednesday night, President Bush declared: "If the Democrats want to test us, that's why they give the president the veto. I'm looking forward to vetoing excessive spending, and I'm looking forward to having the United States Congress support my veto.
Have I thanked you lately, Democrats? No? Well then let me thank you right now for taking Impeachment off the table. I'm really looking forward to 600 more days of nauseating hypocrisy from this war criminal president who's done such a heckuva job controlling spending.
