Am I a troll? (UPDATED with NEW POLL!!)

Sun Dec 31, 2006 at 12:10:04 PM PDT

Am I a troll?

I'm getting pretty fucking tired of hearing a small group of people calling me a troll, ripping my character and ascribing the worst possible motives to me, for no reason other than that they disagree with me and find me irritating.

The accusations have become increasingly offensive.  The other day I was accused of lying about having a husband.  In the same discussion, I was accused of "discrepancies in my personal story".

Let's find out what the community thinks.

I'll post two comments below, one saying I am a troll, the other saying I'm not.  The members of the community can vote by recommending each comment.

Supervixens #28: The "Little Sister" in the Frat House

Thu Dec 28, 2006 at 08:31:18 PM PDT

Welcome to the 28th voyage to the Planet of the Savage Strident Daily Kos Supervixens!

In this installment, I'll tell the story about the "Little Sister" in the frat house.

Supervixens #27: What Do Feminists Find Sexy?

Fri Dec 22, 2006 at 10:30:11 AM PDT

This is a special Friday version of the Supervixens. Yesterday I was attending a Solstice celebration.

Today I read the latest Feminisms diary, which had a good premise: "What is Sexy?" But I was disappointed in the diary and most of the comments - the focus (perhaps because of the subject matter of the Ariel Levy book?) was on women's views on feeling/being sexy.  That's an OK topic - I like to read Cosmo and talk about clothes and shoes as much as the next Supervixen.  But it's only one aspect of female sexuality.  And to me, it's not all that interesting or groundbreaking - it's nothing new for women to be viewed as objects of sexual desire.  Yes, it's powerful to know, and control, your own allure - to know that you're desirable and desired.  But what's empowering is the fact that you're desired by someone else.

I'm far more interested in what we, as feminists, think is sexy - what appeals to us.

Supervixens #26: "Snools are the Rule" (Books by Women)

No More Infighting, No More Attacking Each Other

Sun Dec 10, 2006 at 07:09:51 PM PDT

I have a proposal which I believe will solve many of the current problems here on the site.

I propose the following rules/guidelines:

  • NO personal attacks on other Kossacks
  • NO insulting or abusive language directed toward other Kossacks

Infringement of these rules will result in a warning, and an advisory to mend the relationship with the other party.

Disregarding the warning and continuing the attack will result in banning.

Sometimes aggressive disagreement will seem like a personal attack to the other person, but it might not be intended as such.  Further communication is likely to clarify the situation, if the disagreement was in good faith.

It's perfectly possible to disagree with, or criticize the opinion of, someone without resorting to personal attacks and insults.

It's time everyone here learned how to do that.

Open Letter to John Kerry

Dear Mr Kerry,

The Bush administration appears to want to keep the spotlight on you:

White House insists Kerry apologize

This is a GOOD THING.

Who among us Supervixens could forget the Larry Summers brouhaha?

Well, an interesting study has just come out in Science.  It suggests that perceived stereotypes adversely affect women's performance in math.

Who Wants to Go to New Orleans?

Tue Oct 03, 2006 at 10:29:42 AM PDT

I'm planning on organizing an earth-healing project in New Orleans next year, perhaps in the spring.  Do any of you Kossacks want to have a meetup there and perhaps do some volunteer work to help out the city?  I know there are some of you who are disappointed that YearlyKos won't be in New Orleans.  This would be an opportunity to help the people there with our business and do something constructive.  If you're interested, you can email me at feministsupervixens ( AT) yahoo.com.

Supervixens #14: Woman is the Macaca of the World

Thu Sep 21, 2006 at 03:58:46 PM PDT

Welcome to the Planet of the Savage Strident DKos Feminist Supervixens!

This week's diary theme came from an email I received from a reader.  More below the intro.

"Feminist Supervixens" of every sex and gender are invited to participate in this discussion of feminism, women's issues, and anything even tangentially related.

This is a regularly-occurring "Feminists' Circle" for Daily Kos, where all the supercool feminist Supervixens can pull up a chair and chat, get things off their chests, and get to know each other.

Everyone is free to complain and moan and air their pet peeves - this forum can be "What's Your Fucking Feminist Problem?!" if you're in that frame of mind - but humor, fun, happy stories and congeniality are encouraged.

My Friend Lars

Mon Sep 11, 2006 at 06:55:39 AM PDT

About this time five years ago I was watching the towers burn and praying that my friend Lars had gotten out safely.

If anyone could have escaped, it would have been him, we thought - he was strong-minded, reliable, and practical, exactly the kind of person you would want next to you in a crisis.  He was a fire-safety expert and would have known what to do when trapped in a burning skyscraper.

But if he had been in his office at the time, he wouldn't have had a chance.  He was on the 100th floor of Tower 1, facing uptown.  If he had looked out of his window at the right time, he would have seen the plane hurtling directly towards him.  From what I've read of the post-disaster analysis, the offices of his company were turned into an inferno.  Nobody escaped from any of those upper floors.

On a normal Tuesday morning, Lars wouldn't have been in his office.  He would have taken the first part of the morning off to have coffee with his wife.  That was their little ritual.  But this was an unusual day because their son was starting at a new school and he had gone to drop him off.

Planet of the Savage Strident DKos Feminist Supervixens, Episode 12: Wild 'n' Woolly

Thu Sep 07, 2006 at 06:38:20 PM PDT

Hey everyone, I have plenty to rant about but not much time to expound upon it, since I've been entertaining house guests (and their small children) for the past few days.  So tonight is a wild 'n' woolly Supervixens - an "open thread", as it were.  Go for it, you rabid lambs, you!!
